Good Folk Restaurant
Branding Framework | New Restaurant
How it Started
Having previously worked with this client on several projects, including the visual identity for the Otter Hotel, I was excited to be brought on for Good Folk, a new upscale dining concept set to open within the hotel. This style and calibre of restaurant was a new venture for the company, and its vision was still taking shape. As the restaurant concept continued to evolve, the team needed a visual identity that more closely reflected the experience they were creating. With construction underway, I stepped in to develop an identity that could evolve alongside the restaurant.
What They Needed
A distinctive identity that would complement the Otter Hotel while establishing Good Folk as a destination in its own right. With the restaurant's personality, menu, and overall experience still taking shape, the challenge was to develop a visual direction that could evolve alongside the concept. It needed to feel refined without being conventional, with a unique character that would make the brand memorable while translating seamlessly across everything from menus and signage to the restaurant's interior details.
Where We Landed
The result was a contemporary visual identity that gives Good Folk a distinctive personality while complementing the warmth and sophistication of the restaurant itself. Extending beyond traditional branding applications, the identity becomes an integral part of the dining experience. From menus and window graphics to custom details integrated throughout the space, every element contributes to a cohesive and memorable brand experience.
What I Loved
The opportunity to be involved in a project that went well beyond the usual brand identity development. Being invited into conversations around the menu and evolving restaurant concept gave me a unique perspective and a deeper understanding of the experience the team was working to create. It was a lengthy, evolving process, but seeing it all come together made it incredibly rewarding.
And now? Good Folk is one of my most favourite places to dine in Banff. The space is stunning, the food is exceptional, and there's something pretty special about seeing my work integrated into so many details, from the floor inlay to the logomark embedded in the ice cube of my scrumptious cocktail!
